Rick Santorum: Leading Louisiana

Rick Santorum, former Senator of Pennsylvania, has jumped ahead in the running to taking over the primaries in the state of Louisiana. While other candidates try to appeal to wider audiences on touchy issues such as abortion, Santorum makes a clear, bold stand with statements like “No abortions even in cases of rape; one violence is enough”.

A recent telephone poll done by rasmussenreports.com stated that his popularity was 12 points higher than Mitt Romney!

Rick Santorum came in at 43%, Mitt Romney at 31%, Newt Gingrich at 16%, and Ron Paul with a measly 5%. According to a separate survey also done by the rasmussen reports, a correlation was found that 51% of voters do so, based on whether or not the candidate will only raise the taxes on the rich. Rick Santorum made the statement, “Small businesses pay more tax because the big guys have loopholes”. This may have roped in a few votes for him because using terms like the “big guys” helps create an image that he is fighting for the underdog, aka small businesses.

I find Rick Santorum to be refreshing and similar to George Bush’s manner of leadership. He is not perfectly eloquent, but that should not be what he is judged upon. He says exactly what he means to on every issue without being annoyingly politically correct, without trying to make everybody happy, and he does so with conviction in his voice that makes me believe he is sincere and genuine. I want to follow a man like that. Not only do I agree with him on most points, but he stands by what he says. Many leaders strive to get into office and then feel that they are no longer in a position to be scrutinized or held accountable. It is, in fact, the opposite. Once put in a position, the responsibility is much greater and it is clear what true motives are. I would rather know right in the beginning exactly the kind of man I am putting into office, rather than being told one thing so that I can feel better about myself.

“I am a conservative, meaning that I believe in the way that this country was founded.” He is trying to take us back to how we began in order to take us forward. Finally.

About lilhanlin

I like to think of this blog as a beautiful connection between my life, personal convictions, and daily whims to whoever takes a moment to pause and read- even if it's only to myself re-reading it a few months later. Too many things keep expression trapped inside of us, and it's such a necessary element of life - to self-express and to see emotion released in its rawest, most authentic form. Writing allows us to do that - to take the time to articulate exactly what we feel or what we don't quite understand but must speak out.
